How to choose a Truck-Mounted Crane?

1. XCMG Truck-Mounted Crane Specifications

Truck-mounted crane specifications can be determined from two perspectives:

(1) Specifications are determined by the crane’s tonnage, generally 2 tons, 3.2 tons, 4 tons, 5 tons, 6.3 tons, 8 tons, 10 tons, 12 tons, 14 tons, and 16 tons.

(2) Specifications are determined by the cargo box length, generally 3.4 meters, 4.3 meters, 4.5 meters, 4.8 meters, 5.1 meters, 5.6 meters, 5.8 meters, 7.5 meters, and 8.5 meters.

For 2-ton to 4-ton cranes, the cargo box length is generally 3.4 meters.

For 5-ton to 6.3-ton cranes, the cargo box length is generally 4.8-5.1 meters;

For 8-ton cranes, the cargo box length is generally 5.8 meters.

For 10-ton to 12-ton cranes, the cargo box length is generally 8.5 meters.

2. How to Select a XCMG  Truck-Mounted Crane

(1) The chassis beam of a truck-mounted crane is closely related to the crane itself. Before selecting, determine the required crane tonnage and choose a suitable chassis. The larger the tonnage, the heavier the chassis and the thicker the beam should be. A large-tonnage crane with a small chassis is prone to beam breakage and tipping over, while a small-tonnage crane with a large chassis cannot fully utilize the crane’s lifting capacity.

(2) The size and tonnage of the chassis and crane can be selected according to actual usage needs.

(3) The appropriate engine can be selected based on actual road conditions and operating environment. Generally, mountain roads are frequently used, requiring a powerful engine.

(4) Air conditioning can be installed in the cab for greater comfort. Navigation and ABS can be added as needed for convenient and safe travel.

(5) The crane can be either a straight boom crane or a folding boom crane. Straight boom cranes have a large working radius and are suitable for open working environments, while folding boom cranes have high working efficiency and are suitable for adding various auxiliary equipment. They are widely used in warehouses, factories, docks, and other places with smaller working spaces.

The installation position can be either center-mounted or rear-mounted. Center-mounted cranes are installed behind the cab, making it convenient to choose the lifting position. Generally, straight boom truck cranes with relatively small tonnage are more often chosen for center-mounted cranes. Rear-mounted cranes are installed behind the cargo box, and large folding boom truck cranes are generally chosen for rear-mounted cranes.
